Susan Rethorst: Inquiring Mind/Choreographic Mind

Over the last 25 years, choreographer Susan Rethorst has garnered numerous awards and fellowships for her work which the NYT has described as  “meticulously made, sensually satisfying and thrumming with possibilities.”  BMC is hosting a week of events with Rethorst and her dancers:

Ballet Master Class with Anthony Rizzi

MONDAY, JANUARY 28, 7-8:40PM, Pem Studio
for intermediate/advanced and advanced dancers

Anthony Rizzi trained on full scholarships from 1980 to 1985 at the Boston Ballet School, and from 1985 to 2005 he was Principal Dancer, Choreographic Assistant and Ballet Teacher at the Frankfurt Ballett under the direction of William Forsythe. He danced most of the main roles and helped to create many of them, including Kammer/Kammer, Herman Schmerman, Eidos/Telos, and Impressing the Czar among others. In 1993 through 2005 he worked as a dancer and actor with Jan Fabre in Belgium on several critically acclaimed productions. Rizzi founded MOVING PRODUCTIONS for which he has made many works that have toured internationally including Snowman Sinking, JUDY WAS ANGRY with Jan Fabres, actress Els Deckekelier and members of the Frankfurt Ballet, and “I am open and receptive to new avenues of income” which was an Exhibition/Performance in Rizzi`s own apartment in Frankfurt and exhibited/performed as well in Berlin. He has also set works on companies in the US, Europe, and Australia.

NEW Faculty artists for Spring Semester

Joining our faculty this spring are. . .

KC Chun-Manning, dancer, choreographer, and Alexander Technique practitioner.  KC will be sharing the Modern III instructional position with Linda Caruso Haviland.

 

Megan Mazarick is a Philadelphia based dance artist, choreographer and film maker who will be choreographing the Modern Ensemble.

 

Shannon Murphy, although noted as a Franklin Method advanced instructor and as a dance artist and choreographer in the contemporary/experimental dance scene, is also an accomplished choreographer in musical theatre and will be setting work on our Jazz Ensemble.

 

Jodi Obeid, a choreographer, performance artist, and dance educator will be teaching a special five week session on Contemporary Floor Technique for intermediate and advanced dancers.

SCIENCE PER FORMS: dance, robotics, and computers. . .the collaborative phase

With the support of the Mellon Tri-Co Creative Residencies Program and the Bryn Mawr Dance Program, the College will host a series of events showcasing the collaborators in a unique performance project, SCIENCE PER FORMS.  Working with the catalysts for the project, performance anthropologist, Marcel Williams Foster, and choreographer, Meredith Rainey, we are bringing computer designers and dancers to campus to share their process with us; hosting a panel on performance and robotics; and providing free tickets and transportation to Philadelphia to see the final performance project.
