Making work. . .Levi Gonzalez

Levi GonzalezLEVI GONZALEZ AND SUSAN MAR LANDAU
At Bryn Mawr . . .discussing the new work intimacy
Thursday, October 6
2:30 PM PEM STUDIO

You’re invited to join our Composition I class in a discussion and demonstration (and, possibly, some participation) with choreographer, Levi Gonzalez, and Dramaturg, Susan Landau about the work they have been doing while developing Gonzalez’s most recent solo work, intimacy.

Levi Gonzalez is a choreographer and performer whose own work and collaborations have been presented by various NYC venues, including Movement Research, Dance Theater Workshop, and Danspace Project. He has performed extensively including his work with Donna Uchizono Company and John Jasperse Company. He has been selected for several prestigious grants, fellowships, and residencies in support of his work and for 5 years he served as a founding editor for Critical Correspondence, an online publication of Movement Research. He is currently an Artist in Residence at Brooklyn Arts Exchange and serves as the artistic advisor for DTW’s Fresh Tracks Residency Program.

His solo, intimacy, developed in collaboration with dramaturg Susan Mar Landau, explores the idiosyncrasies of his own interests in movement and performance, building structure that exposes his own personal relationship to the form. Often framing the action with language, he establishes a directness with the spectator that resists metaphor, while still leaving space for the engagement of the imagination. Ultimately the work examines the intimacy of the relationship between performer and audience, and how we navigate this shared experience. intimacy, along with works by Christina Zani and Headlong Dance Theatre, will be performed at the Christ Church Neighborhood House in Philadelphia on October 8th and 9th. Student tickets are $10 for the performance. www.birdbirdbird.org
